General Description
The CW3043 is a USB charging controller IC integrated with output current protection function. CW3043 is fully compatible with USB type C DFP standard, and will enable the power output to charge the attached device which is also compatible with type C standard. A 40 mΩ power switch is integrated with full protection against port in-rush current and output short to ground condition. Over current protection function is also provided, which is typically 110% of the rated current. The CW3043 is suitable for all the charger products using USB type C interface like power bank, car charger and wall adapters. ? The IC is provided with enhanced ESD protection up to +/-8kV with application on CC Pins. CW3043 is available in eMSOP-10 package.

CW3043

Function
CW3043 is a USB type C charging controller IC with current protection function. Over current controlling function is compatible with type C 5V3A or 5V1.5A mode. Current protection function avoids inrush or unexpected big current to the external load, ensures the safety of both power source and the device connected to VOUT pin.

will turn on the output; if not, CW3043 will stay in the hiccup mode and try to turn on the MOSFET periodically until the overload condition is removed. CW3043 also embeds short circuit protection. All the operation flow and mechanism of short circuit protection are same as the over current protection except the threshold and delay time.

USB Type C Acknowledge and Control
CW3043, integrated with intelligent UFP and power cable detection circuits, can identify the external device’s attach action, and then enables the output power to charge the device. CW3043 monitors the voltage of CC1 and CC2 all the time, once CC1 or CC2 achieves the trigger threshold, IC will automatically identify the device attached and control the power output, meanwhile, _WK will be asserted to indicate the UFP is attached.

Fault Status Output
The _FAULT open-drain output is asserted (active low) during two conditions: over temperature or over current protection. The output remains low until the fault condition is removed. It means that the _FAULT pin outputs low in the hiccup mode.

Thermal Protection
The CW3043 has independent thermal sensing circuit for the thermal protection. The thermal sensor monitors the operating temperature and disables the CW3043 if it exceeds the recommended operating temperature. Thermal sensor turns off the power MOSFET when the junction temperature exceeds 155°C. Hysteresis circuit is also built into the protection circuits, the power MOSFET will be turned on after the temperature decreases to approximately 135°C. The output of _FAULT pin is also asserted low during the over temperature condition.

Current Protection
CW3043 integrates current protection function. When the over current condition occurs and maintains longer than tOC, CW3043 will turn off the MOSFET and enter the over current protection state. tOCR time later, CW3043 will try to turn on the MOSFET to detect the overload is removed or not. If the overload condition is removed, CW3043
